I am a self proclaimed Grinch when it comes to Valentine's Day. But that doesn't mean I have to inflict my poor attitude on everyone else, right? When I saw these cute red hearts at The Graphics Fairy, I thought they'd work really well on a set of perpetual calendar blocks.
I used some stash for this project, which is always great.
These blocks are from a set my kids played with long ago. This was one of those toys I was happy not to part with. This picture shows them after two coats of gesso. I did continue to add some white acrylic paint to each side.
I printed the hearts onto tissue paper, and cut each one out carefully. I put a coat of Mod Podge on each side and gently smoothed the hearts onto the blocks.
I agonized over the numbers and where I would place them, mostly because the nine always doubles as the six on the second block, and I wasn't sure how that would look.
I actually think this looks cool. What do you think?
After Mod Podging all of my numbers on, and letting it dry, I went over the whole set with One Step Crackle. I dig the aged finish it gave my blocks.
Leave it to The Graphics Fairy to inspire this meanie to contribute something to this holiday of hearts! Thanks Karen!
