Another fork in the post

Apparently, I have a reputation.  A reputation for being crafty.  Not crafty as in devious and scheming. The other kind of crafty.  I can live with that rep...

A while ago, I made this dishwasher magnet. It's holding up great, and looks cute in the kitchen.  At school, we also have a dishwasher.  Have you seen one of those old all stainless numbers that you have to twist the handle to lock? And push a simple red button to start it? It looks like that.

To avoid running it too often, we wait until the machine is full.  We then find ourselves asking the same question at work that all of us ask at home... Is this clean?

I announced that I would make a cute dishwasher magnet, and I did, so here I am!  I found this amazing image of silverware from The Graphics Fairy, and printed it. I covered it with my clear embossing pad and then Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel, and melted it with my heat tool.

I apologize for the lighting on some of these, as they were taken last night.

I cut a piece of chipboard and rounded the edges with an old nail file.

I covered that with blue tissue paper and Mod Podge and let it dry.  During that time I cut out the knife and fork with my scissors and exacto.  I used Mod Podge to glue them to the chipboard.

I used my fine point white paint marker to write dirty on one side and clean on the other. I outlined it with a thin black marker, and then gave it three coats of Mod Podge to seal and protect it.  I added black brads and a flourish stamp for embellishment.

The last thing I did was add self adhesive magnet strips to the back.  I think it will help and look pretty elegant at the same time.

Which way should I go?

  15. This is actually a good idea - i've seen similar ones a few times on other blogs too and didn't think it much of a useful idea...until my husband started putting used dishes in with the clean ones, hehe.
