Free Trio

Have you ever gone into a room in your house looking for something specific, and you end up finding something completely unrelated that inspires you?  I know, all the time!  I was looking for staples for the staple gun, and came across this wooden memory game.  I grabbed it and brought it to my "I will do something cool with this" pile.  (Never found the staples...)

I had printed out some images from The Graphics Fairy, and went through them. I found these ornate pictures, which happened to fit perfectly on these wood squares.

First I painted them with a couple of coats of Distress crackle paint (old paper).  I inked the edges of the frames with StazOn in timber brown and glued them with Mod Podge.

I just added some seed beads, an antique key, and some Distress Stickles. (Have I confessed yet about my love for Tim Holtz?)

I tried to get close ups of them to show you the crackle effect of that paint.  It's good stuff!  Dolly wants to hang it on her door...I'll think about it!

I never met a link I didn't like!

  2. Oh I love these. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has piles (plural) of "I will do something cool with this" stuff. These turned out great.

  3. Very pretty, Christine! And yes, that does happen to me, too. I'm not always happy about it though, because "that pile" is growing!

I love this idea! I love all of the great elements you used, especially the key. What are "stickles", by the way?

re-posted by blog author who zigged when she should of zagged...sorry :)

  5. I'm easily sidetracked like that, too, Christine! But in your case it looks like your time was better spent altering your inspirational find than...stapling stuff! lol

  10. Sweet. I have piles of stuff, but never do anything with them, or even think that I will. I'm so glad that there are people like you out there to inspire me.
