I am not the first crafty blogger, (nor will I be the last) to work on a project, not be in love with it and put it aside. There it sits, sadly. What is its fate?
Will it end up in the trash, forgotten?
Will its owner rediscover it and turn it into a valuable and loved piece of art?
I can be dramatic, can't I?
This happens all the time, I find it can be part of the creative process. Here is my latest example of such a scenario.
This wooden box contained a matching game that my kids have outgrown. I kept the box, it's well-made and has that nifty clear cover. Originally, I had painted it a sage green and stained it with brown stamp ink.
I thought I would fall in love if I added some antique keys to the sides. They kept falling off, and did nothing to alter my ho-hum feelings towards my project.
Then, about a week ago, I was attempting (emphasis on the word attempting) to organize, and realized that my postage stamps fit perfectly in the box. The clouds parted...I saw a rainbow...
Sorry! I went to The Graphics Fairy and searched for images of stamps, or postage, and found this...
I lightly sanded the first paint to give my new paint some "tooth." I painted it with one coat of vanilla acrylic paint, and loved the distressed look.
I printed the postmarks on ivory resume paper and inked the edges. Out came the trusty Mod Podge, and the One Step Crackle, and ta-da!
You know how much I love the link-iness...
